Coastal Prairie Conservancy is sponsoring a Great Grow Out (GGO) Workshop to teach volunteers to grow our native plants for their prairies.
Although it is part of our faith based GGO Workshop and is at a church, there is nothing in the workshop about religion. It’s faith based because churches have public gardens and the person who initiated the program wanted churches to put in native plant gardens.
Participants receive a seed starter kit, prairie plant seeds, and get to keep a few plants for volunteering.
We will give a 1.25-1.5 hour presentation about CPC, pollinators, native plants, and our
Great Grow Out Program . Then there will be a half hour demonstration and hands-on sowing of prairie plant seeds into starter kits. Seeds and starter kits are provided by CPC. The participants will take the starter kits home to germinate the seeds and raise them until they are ready to be bumped up. Time to tend for the plants will count as volunteer hours. At that point, they may keep a few plants for themselves and give the rest back to CPC to be raised by our volunteers at our nursery until they are planted in the ground for restoration purposes.
NOTE: The workshop is AT (Record time as AT: Coastal Prairie Conservancy) and time spent growing/tending the native plants for the CPC is Volunteer time (Record your times Coastal Prairie Conservancy – Trails and Wildscapes. Include location and service performed when recording your time in VMS. Remember, your service is recordable only when dealing with native species.)
