The Kolter Elementary School “Grassroom” is a garden area incorporating Pocket Prairies, Pollinator Gardens, raised beds and orchards. All of these areas existed prior to Harvey’s destruction of the school. The support of the community, the PTO and the Alumni led to a beautiful rebirth of Kolter’s Outdoor Learning area, now known as The Grassroom. We are very interested in involving the Greater Houston Community.
Every second Saturday, from 9AM-noon, students, parents, Middle School and High School Honor Society students plus scouts all volunteer. We would like to use our school’s wonderful gardens to teach the community. It would be great for Master Naturalists to help share how to care for Native plants and why it is so important.
NOTE: First time volunteers may be required to get specific approval as a school volunteer and to take the HISD VIPS (Volunteer In Public Schools) Online Training Course.
Park on Dumfries Dr., go through the gate nearest the corner of Runnymeade and Dumfries.
