Houston Audubon – Sanctuary Stewards

October 1 @ 7:00 am - 7:00 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 7:00 am on Saturday, repeating until May 27, 2023

Our sanctuary is often referred to as a “hidden gem” and has been featured in numerous Houston publications as a wonderful retreat for hikers, birders, and families. Edith L Moore is open 365 days a year from 7am to 7pm, and is completely free. In order to keep the sanctuary free, we need enthusiastic volunteers to help monitor the sanctuary and provide all visitors with a wonderful experience.

Sanctuary Stewards answer questions and make sure things are running smoothly, while keeping an eye out for issues. At the same time Stewards can bird, botanize, do some herping, or just enjoy being outside for a while.

As a steward you should be comfortable working solo or with another person if you choose, talking to the public, explaining and enforcing sanctuary rules and regulations, and willing to maintain the current Houston Audubon COVID-19 masking and distancing policy. We will provide you with educational materials a good working knowledge of the property before turning you loose on your own!

Steward shifts are available between 7am and 7pm on Saturday and Sunday, and shifts can be from 1-3 hours long. Exact time of day is flexible. If you are interested please send an email to volunteer@houstonaudubon.org for more details.
