Balcones Canyonlands NWR: Hike Training signup deadline

That’s the deadline for signing up for Refuge hike leader training. The program is limited to 10-15 people. The training is approved for AT, and leading Refuge hikes qualifies for volunteer service. After training you will be expected to support at least two hikes per season. You can start out as a sweep on hikes until you feel comfortable leading. Training will cover topics such as best practices for leading a hike, basic first aid, geology, flora and fauna of the refuge, history of the refuge, etc. Write ups in support of trail talking point are provided. Leaders can add additional content to enhance the hikers’ experience. Link below to the application. Questions? Contact Paula
