Bamberger Ranch Preserve – Nature Trail Maintenance

Volunteer Opportunity – January 11^th

As part of an ongoing effort to keep up with an ever-changing wildscape, the Bamberger Ranch needs volunteers to help with nature trail maintenance.  On January 11^th, we will focus on the short loops accessed from and leading back to the Arboretum Trail.  Some of these side excursions have become overgrown with tall grass and low-hanging branches.  As such, these loops are not readily navigable by schoolchildren and other visitors.  The objectives for the day are as follows.

• Cut the grass with weedwhackers or brush cutters.
• Remove a downed limb on a large Ashe Juniper and cut into lengths suitable for lining trails.
• Realign the trail edges with any nearby logs and/or stones.
• Remove any tripping hazards and/or fill holes created by any number of critters.
• Trim/Remove any overhanging branches that make passage difficult.

Volunteers are to meet at the Madrone Lake patio at 10 am.  The plan is to be finished by no later than 1 pm as there may be hunters on the ranch on that day.  Recommended tools include weedwhackers, brush cutters, chain saws (and oil/fuel), reciprocating saws (and batteries), pole saws, handsaws, work gloves, rakes, shovels, loppers, hedge shears, pruners, hats, sunscreen, insect repellant, water, and snack/lunch.  If you are interested in the above trail maintenance activities, please let me know so I can inform the ranch staff who to expect and on which date.
