*Dec. 14. Trail maintenance including the removal of obsolete signage. Volunteers will meet at the Madrone Lake patio at 10 a.m. The plan is to be finished by 1 p.m. Recommended tools include shovels, rakes, fencing pliers, saws and loppers, along with work gloves, hats, sunscreen, insect repellant, water and snack/lunch.
As part of an ongoing effort to keep up with an ever-changing wildscape, the Bamberger Ranch needs volunteers to help with nature trail maintenance.
The following is a list of goals with respect to maintaining the nature trails.
- Remove obsolete signage as well as restore downed signage. Recommended tools include screwdrivers, pliers, mallets, shovels, and work gloves.
- Remove protective fencing around plants which have died. Recommended tools include fencing pliers, mallets, and work gloves.
- Realign trail edges as the feral hogs have a tendency to relocate the logs and rocks in their search for food. Recommended tools include work gloves.
- Remove tripping hazards and fill holes created by any number of animals. Recommended tools include work gloves, rakes, and shovels.
- Trim/Remove any branches that present a potential hazard. Recommended tools include reciprocating saws (and batteries), pole saws, handsaws, loppers, and work gloves.
While we will start with the Arboretum Trail, we hope to eventually address the needs of all hiking trails on the ranch.
