Initial Training – ornithology

June 22 @ 8:00 am - 3:30 pm

    • This Ornithology training session will be with Patsy and Tom Inglet and birders from Master Naturalists.  The morning will be a field trip for bird watching with Master Naturalists led by Bill and Kathy Lupardus and MidNats.  Afternoon session is from your home by Zoom.  Patsy and Tom will Zoom in with Bird Biology and Birding in the afternoon.
    • The field session will be held at Sibley Nature Center on June 22 from 8:00 am to 11:00 am. Please meet in the parking lot of Sibley.   We will walk through the grounds of Sibley to the pond and cross over to Hogan Park and  back to the Center.  Please wear closed-toed shoes.  Long pants and hats are recommended.  Please bring water and a field guide if you have one. Bug spray and sun block are a good idea too.  The members of the Midland Naturalists will be along to help identify birds.  If you do not have binoculars, or don’t have a pair of bird binoculars (preferable 8×42 or 10×42) no worries.  Sibley has wonderful binoculars to borrow and we will have those on hand to use during the field session.  The afternoon session will start at 12:30 PM where you will watch the presentation from the comfort of your own home by Zoom.  The link will be sent the day before or the day of the presentation.
    • Handouts for the field session as well at the Ornithology Curriculum Guide are posted on the website: https://txmn.org/llano/birding-in-west-texas/ Scroll down to find the wonderful handouts from the Inglets and continue on down to the pictures (courtesy of Galen Stewart) and audio from Bill Lupardus on some of our common West Texas Birds.
