On a hot July afternoon, a group of children and adults gathered in the cool Stephenville Library basement to learn cool facts about raccoons.
We began with picking up a POMN Raccoon name tag and getting to know one another. Since our raccoon (puppet) didnβt have a name, we discussed possibilities and decided on Bandit. Our raccoon knowledge was tested by the reading of 10 statements about them and responding with our yes/no paddles- yes if we agreed and no if we disagreed. Oh, how we were surprised about some statements and learned some very interesting facts!
Next, a raccoon drawing was exhibited, and the various physical characteristics were explored. For example, why do raccoons have masks, ringed tails, fluffy bodies, and fingerlike paws? If you donβt know, you should plan to be at the activity next time we present it. The fun-filled afternoon concluded with creating our own chubby paper plate raccoon.
Many thanks to everyone who cut out raccoon parts and my helpers for the day β Teresa Donaldson, Lynn Wood, and Judy and Paul Warner.
