The Bosque River Trail is a 2.5-mile trail that runs along the north bank of the Bosque River in Stephenville, Texas.Β The trail is good for walking, hiking, and biking, and offers views of the river.Β It also has amenities like bike storage, benches, lighting, and trash receptacles.Β The Bosque River Trail connects the City Park, Boy Scout area, and Historical Museum to downtown Stephenville, and is open to the public 24 hours a day. The trail has many places to see native animals, including turkeys, opossums, raccoons, armadillos, birds, and deer.
The City allotted approximately an acre of land along the Bosque River Trail for the development of a natural landscape and prairie restoration. Volunteers from the Prairie Oaks Chapter started work on the project in November 2016, and continue to provide maintenance at monthly workdays, and other times. The nature center is a valuable resource for TMN training classes and is the site of the chapter’s annual Nature Fest celebration. In addition it is enjoyed daily by local residents using the trail.
The Bosque River Trail Nature Center is a collaboration between the City of Stephenville, the Prairie Oaks Master Naturalists, and the Tarleton State University Department of Wildlife and Natural Resources. The center’s goals include:
- Restoring natural prairies
- Providing a habitat for wildlife, pollinators, and birds
- Using the site for educational programs and community activities
