6:00-7:00 pm – Chapter Business Meeting
7:00-8:00 pm – Program: Incentives for Native Wildlife Management on Private Lands by Cheyenne Mack, Private Landowner Consultant
Many landowners are familiar with agricultural based tax exemption programs. These incentive programs are especially popular throughout the primarily agricultural lands of the Cross Timbers Region. Unfortunately, these programs can be detrimental to the integrity of wildlife habitat. Join the discussion as we explore how a local ranch is utilizing an alternative incentive program offered in the state of Texas to facilitate native ecosystems and wildlife.
Cheyenne is an Erath County native and has always been passionate about the outdoors and the area she grew up. She attended Tarleton State University where she graduated with her B.S. in Wildlife, Sustainability and Ecosystem Sciences, and M.S. in Agricultural and Natural Resource Sciences. Her experiences at Tarleton developed her passion for wildlife and outdoor education.
As an undergraduate student, Cheyenne was Secretary of the Tarleton Student Chapter of The Wildlife Society (TSCTWS), involved with the Education andOutreach Committee of TSCTWS, a Residential Leader at Centennial and Legacy halls, a 3-year Tarleton Cheerleader, and a Student Academic Mentor. During her time as a graduate student, she continued to help provide opportunities to TSCTWS, continued as a Student Academic Mentor, assisted with a variety of undergraduate classes, attended the 2019 Southern Africa study abroad as a graduate assistant, and worked diligently on the People and Prairies partnership project between local landowners and the WSES department.
Since graduation, Cheyenne has continued to focus on her passion in education and taught a 3-hour course as an adjunct professor at Tarleton. She has also volunteered her time with African Wildlife Services (AWS) by assisting the development of various projects, including a future South African Bio Blitz. She recently accepted a position with DeLeon ISD, where she hopes to use her knowledge of outdoor education to teach local students the importance of conservation and sustainable agriculture practices.
