🐕 Conservation Work with Canine Companions: February Chapter Meeting & Presentation

February 15, 2024 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Please Note: February meeting will be held at the Middle Trinity Groundwater Conservation District and not at AgriLife.

Rebecca Harris has the pleasure of performing conservation work with her canine companions. The field of canine detection conservation is expanding, and we perform surveys under wind turbines to locate bird and bat casualties to improve the accuracy of the fatalities caused at these sites. She will discuss canine detection, how she found this job, the training entailed, challenges and triumphs.

About the Speaker

Rebecca Harris received her bachelors from McMurry University, and while there, she studied the differences in the bat populations in the Big Country from bats that were within 25 kilometers of a wind turbine and bats that were more than 25 kilometers away from a turbine. She also attended Angelo State to pursue her masters and while there studied the effects of an acoustic lure on bats in Big Bend Ranch State Park.
