Chapter Meeting with Guest Speaker

May 4, 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

All members, guests, and visitors are invited to the chapter’s monthly meetings. Each meeting starts with a potluck (dinner on us for guests and visitors), followed by a speaker and the business meeting.

6:00    Potluck

6:30    Speaker: Holly Heafele, Fossil Rim Wildlife Center, Director of Animal Health – Zoonotic Diseases.

Dr. Haefele’s love of ungulates began when she was an undergrad studying feral horse behavior. Shortly after earning her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Tufts University in 2000, she returned to hoofstock as Fossil Rim Wildlife Center’s Associate Veterinarian. Since 2006 she has been the Director of Animal Health and oversees all research. Sometimes she deals with the hoof-challenged, as she is the veterinary co-advisor to the Cheetah SSP and sees about 200 Attwater’s prairie-chicken patients each May.

Zoonotic Diseases, her presentation at this meeting, is an introduction to the epidemiology, terminology, and environmental and anthropogenic drivers of the germs we share with animals. She also will present practical applications for safely interacting with animals on a day-to-day basis.

7:30    Business meeting
