Our chapter was invited by Texas A&M Agrilife Extension to participate at the 2022 Texas Rice Festival for the first time this year where we presented “Flora and Fauna of the Marsh” to students and community attendees in the Rice Education Tent. Chapter members provided awareness of the marsh ecosystem and the many plants and and organisms that thrive within the marsh.
Activities included a frog jumping game where frogs eat bugs, dragonflies role in eating mosquitos, how to build a frog habitat, and a background on the origin of marshmallow treats, which were derived from the marsh mallow plant, Hibiscus moscheutos.
Our exhibit was well received and appreciated by the community and we received 1st Place in the Rice Education Exhibit on a job well done. Thanks to all who participated and contributed to this successful event.
