Champions for Nature Returns

March 17, 2023 by Chapter Member

The Sabine-Neches Chapter, Texas Master Naturalist™ will present Champions for Nature at the YMBL South Texas State Fair, Saturday-Sunday, April 1-2, 2023 from noon-6pm. Located in the Ford Exhibit Hall, this immersive, outdoor educational experience will be made up of local groups whose sole purpose is to promote awareness, education about and love for nature.

Along with Sabine-Neches Chapter, displays will be on hand from  Long Leaf Ridge Chapter, Texas Master Naturalist, Cattail Marsh, Tyrrell Park Nature Center, Big Thicket Association, Big Thicket National Preserve, Sierra Club, Native Plant Society of Texas, Sea Rim State Park, Village Creek State Park, Texas State Park Police, Big Thicket Biosphere Reserve, Texas Bluebird Society, Nature Conservancy-Roy Larson Sandyland Sanctuary. and Texas Forest Service among others.

“With the success of the inaugural event last year, we are excited to, again, bring all of these organizations under one roof to show the public just how much we have to offer in Southeast Texas,” said Nancy Angell, Public Outreach Director for the Sabine-Neches Chapter and event organizer. “It is vital that we continue to stress the importance of protecting our natural resources. We do that through education.”

Angell said there will be something for all ages. “From interactive games to educational videos to on-stage presentations, there is something for everyone. We will also have a set of wildlife themed murals painted by a local high school artist in place for selfie opportunities. The event is free with admission to the fair, so bring the whole family.”

We encourage everyone attending the fair this year to check out the Champions for Nature exhibit to see all the wonderful outdoor opportunities we have right here within our communities.
