Winter 2021
Chapter members undertook the renovation of what was previously a raptor rehabilitation aviary into a greenhouse to grow understory plants for the Longleaf Savannah Restoration Project. The aviary was filled with sand deposited by floodwaters from Hurricane Harvey and was overgrown with vines and other voluntary plants. The greenhouse is now set up with a potting station and trays for the growing seedlings within the structure. The cage-like structure will prevent deer from browsing on the growing plants and is equipped with a misting sprinkler system. Chapter members will be harvesting native seed and live plants and grasses to nurture the growth that will be planted throughout the savannah.
