Fellow Longleaf lovers and dibblers!

GREAT news!  The tree planting has been rescheduled for February 9th!  Same time and place (see attached).  I can’t not tell you how excited I am that the park is willing to jump right back in and make this planting happen.  The park expressed their gratitude to all of you that stepped up to gather trash and keep an eye on the park during the shutdown and we all thank you for your patience as we reschedule this amazing event!

A few things to note about the rescheduled planting:

·       The parks is asking for help to get ALL of their trees in the ground that had for this season.  They had 3 groups that were scheduled to plant but were not able to because of the shutdown.  This means we have 21,800 trees to plant – WE CAN DO IT!  Please plan on coming for the day if possible – officially the day will end at 3:30.

·       NO lunch will be provided – we are scaling back on some of the “frills” due to the reschedule and fewer staff available.  We will have plenty of water (see next bullet) and snacks!  You are welcome and encouraged to bring your own lunch to have!

·       PLEASE bring your own water bottle – we will provide fill stations for you to get as much water as you need!  If you need something with caffeine you are welcome to bring that with you!

·       It will be muddy!  The area has received lots of rain so you need to have boots (mud, hiking or garden) of some kind!

·       You will still need BOTH release forms (attached).

Finally, I just want to thank you all for your continued support for this event, for Big Thicket National Preserve and for all our national parks and the rangers that protect them.  We all have work to do to recover from the shutdown and I hope that you will continue to reach out and let your voices be heard!  Please let me know if you have any questions and don’t forget to RSVP!

See you in the forest!
