Canoe Cleanup on Pine Island Bayou

September 21, 2019 @ 8:30 am - 11:30 am

*** Postponed ***

Looking for something fun to do this weekend while working to SAVE THE PLANET?

The Big Thicket Natural Heritage Trust has scheduled a one-mile canoe cleanup of trash along the banks of Pine Island Bayou for Saturday, July 20 at 8:30 a.m.

WHY:The Trust was fortunate to receive a NEEF grant that funded cleanup of 7.5 miles of bayou through the Preserve for restoration and resilience following Harvey. A contractor has removed trash and debris from all but one mile of the Bayou; the segment from the Hwy 69/96 bridge to the Cooks Lake Day Use Area. We will be working on that segment.

WHEN:Saturday, September 21 at 8:30 a.m.

WHERE: Meet at the new Hwy 69/96, Cooks Lake Exit boat ramp on Pine Island Bayou.

DETAILS: Canoes, paddles, tools, trash receptacles and water will be provided. The cleanup will end at the Big Thicket National Preserve Cooks Lake Day Use Area. You will be ferried back to your vehicles.

If you would like to participate or have questions, please call or email Ellen Buchanan at 409 382-5102 or ellenbuchanan@sbcglobal.net.

It will be fun to paddle the beautiful bayou through the Preserve. Thank you for your consideration and help in restoring Pine Island Bayou. Please invite your family, friends, and anyone you know that has a passion for helping to save our planet.
