Canoe/Kayak Trip to a Bald Eagle’s Nest

Nesting Bald Eagle at Martin Dies
The plan is to leave the Walnut Ridge Day Use Area at 10 a.m. The round trip should be an easy 2-hour paddle, assuming the wind and weather cooperate.
A canoe for two can be rented at the Walnut Ridge DUA for $20; a single person kayak is $15.
There is a $4 per person park entrance fee unless you have a park pass.
The park is about an hour drive from Beaumont. Try to arrive at the park by 9:30 a.m. to allow for check-in at the Park Ranger Station and get over to the Walnut Ridge Day Use Area.
The weather can always cause the trip to be canceled, so we plan to update participants on the day before the event. RSVP to Gerald Langham at [email protected] if you plan to attend.
