American Eel

American Eel

Advanced Training:  Stephen Curtis, Aquatic Biologist for the River Studies Program of the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department, will discuss an American Eel survey coming up late this year.

Project Notes:  This coast-wide project will search for juvenile American Eels in an effort to collect much-needed data on the life history of this species within the state of Texas.  Volunteers are being sought to deploy eel mops at boat ramps, fishing piers, bulkheads, etc., within tidal streams and estuaries.  Deployment and retrieval of the eel mops can be done without getting in the water, and each eel mop is fairly light and can be easily handled.  Additionally, TPWD will provide all equipment and datasheets needed to conduct field work.

Flyer:  American Eel Monitoring

A chapter meeting will follow the presentation.
