Sea Rim Beach Clean-up

Join other members of Sabine-Neches Texas Master Naturalist in sponsoring the Sea Rim State Park Spring Adopt-A-Beach event.

Registration starts at 8:30 a.m. (but members are asked to arrive about 8:00 a.m.).  The event officially lasts from 9 a.m. – noon.  The entrance fee for participants is waived so the rest of the day can be enjoyed at the beach.

Preregister at www.texasadoptabeach.org or on the Sea Rim Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/events/629476323916782.

As an official sponsor, we have traditionally provided snacks and lunch for participants.  Our chapter will request volunteers via our Shutterfly site to man the registration booth, purchase snacks/lunch and prizes, barbeque the links, serve lunch, etc.

History:  The Texas Adopt-A-Beach program began in the fall of 1986, when 2,800 volunteers picked up 124 tons of trash.  Since then, more than 505,000 volunteers have removed more than 9,400 tons of trash from Texas beaches.  The Texas Adopt-A-Beach program is an all-volunteer effort to remove trash from Texas beaches and waterways and to increase public awareness of the problems of marine debris and beach litter.  Twice each year, volunteers check in at sites along the coast to pick up trash.

In 1991 the international Maritime Organiation designated the Gulf of Mexico and the Wider Caribbean as a “special area” where the dumping of trash, with the exception of finely ground food scraps, is prohibited.

If you can’t make the cleanup, show your support by donating online at http://texasadoptabeach.org.
