Village Creek Work Day

Help Village Creek Recover from the Damage of Hurricane Harvey!

Date:  Saturday, February 17 from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (or until done)

The goal of this workday will be to find all of the picnic tables in the Walk-in camping area, and move them to an area where they can be picked up and taken to a staging area. We will also be picking up washed-in debris and piling it in an area to be picked up later.

This will likely be the last volunteer opportunity for hurricane recovery for a while because we will have contractors coming in to start repairs on the damaged areas. That is also why this workday is so important – we want to be sure to get the picnic table out of harm’s way before they come.

Volunteers can come for the morning session only from 10 am until noon or the afternoon session only from 2pm until 4pm or even the entire time from 10am until 4pm if they wish. We will have a break for lunch from noon until 1pm. If they want to stay for the afternoon session, they will need to bring a sack lunch. Water and snacks will be provided.

Due damage to the road and trails, volunteers will need to park and walk about ½ mile to the worksite. This area is closed to the public and volunteers will need to be escorted to the worksite by park staff, therefore, it is very important that they arrive and leave as a group so that a staff member can escort them.

Dress for the weather and trail conditions! Closed-toed shoes and long pants are a must and gloves, mosquito repellent, and sunscreen would be a very good idea.
