Pollinator Projects

A group of dedicated Texas Master Naturalists from the Sabine-Neches Chapter formed a Pollinator
Committee to promote community education, outreach, and service to foster the development
of pollinator gardens across Southeast Texas. Through community pollinator gardens, the Sabine-Neches Texas Master Naturalist volunteers hope to encourage members of the community to develop
personal pollinator gardens to support natural resources and natural areas.

It all began with this Public Lands Day Service at the Big Thicket Field Research Station in Saratoga

In 2022, the Committee began developing collaborative relationships with local agencies for the development of joint pollinator garden projects. This has resulted in the development of three new pollinator gardens in Southeast Texas: Village Creek State Park in Lumberton, The Giving Field on Liberty Street in Beaumont, and at the City of Orange Boat Launch.

It’s official! A new sign was installed at our chapter’s new pollinator garden at the Giving Field in Beaumont.

Your Pollinator Garden

Here are some great resources to help you get started as you plan and build your own pollinator garden. When developing pollinator gardens, it is important to choose a variety of plants that will support regional pollinators year-round. Blue Mist Flower, Indian Blanket, Mealy Blue Sage, Texas Lantana, and Prairie Verbena are plants that flower from spring through winter, providing nectar for pollinators almost year round. Texas Lantana also serves as a host plant for the caterpillars of Painted Lady Butterflies.
