Please join us for this month’s Star Party at Abilene State Park. Meet us across from the swimming pool in the open area (soccer field). Please bring red lights if you have them. We ask you dim headlights when entering swimming pool area so people observing the stars don’t lose their night vision. You do not have to have a telescope to enjoy the star party but you are welcome to bring one if you have one. Come join in on the fun!
What is a star party? A star party is a gathering of people who are interested in learning about the night sky and viewing the moon, planets, stars and other objects in the sky. Amateur astronomers are there to share their telescopes and knowledge with others.
What should you know?
*If you’ve never come to a star party, it might be helpful to show up to the park before dark so you can see where we are.
*Dim your headlights when you get into the pool area. The white lights affect the star viewing.
*Bring a red light if you have one. It helps you see without affecting the viewing.
*Dress for the cooler weather at night.
*You don’t have to have your own telescope to come join in on the fun but you are welcome to bring one if you have one.
