Angler Expo at Bonham State Park

June 1 @ 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM

Once again, June 1st, 2024, will be a fun-filled day for adults and children alike, where we introduce the wonder and intrigue of all things aquatic. This summer event will begin at 9:00 AM and conclude at 2:00 PM. Between our staff and volunteers, we are looking to host the following stations for all to enjoy.

  • What Fish is this? AND How big is that mouth?
    • Fish ID and Regulations – Why do we have rules?
  • Put the Bait Where the Fish Are
    • Casting Safely with Targets
  • Habitat and Critters with Touch Tank
    • What inhabits this lake, and where can you find them?
    • Touch Tank will include invertebrates
  • Is it a Knot or Not
    • Demonstrating and teaching useful knots for fishing.
  • Rods, Reels, and Tackle, OH MY!
    • Picking the right equipment for the job.
  • Ethics Station
    • Be part of the solution, not the pollution.
  • Fish Printing
    • Painting Arts and Crafts

Each of the above stations is estimated to last 10-15 minutes per group, with two volunteers running each station. We would also need volunteers to assist on the fishing pier (untangling line, casting safely, and bringing the fish back to shore), taking photos, running the sign-in booth (clear handwriting required), and much more. Volunteers must arrive just after 8:00 AM on Saturday, June 1st, to become familiar with their role. Bring plenty of water, sunscreen, and a hat, and be ready for a fun-filled day! We will again implement the Angler EXPO Punch Card and corresponding Angler Education awards/pins to ensure equal enjoyment for all.
