As spring approaches, clean beach habitat becomes more and more important, because nesting sea turtles and shorebirds will soon be using this habitat to build their nests. These animals are highly prone to entanglement and the turtles are known for eating plastic as well.

So, Gulf Coast Bird Observatory has partnered with American Bird Conservancy, SPLASh, Gulf Center for Sea Turtle Research, and the Texas Master Naturalists to create NestFest. NestFest spans across 12 beaches which have been identified as possible nesting habitat. This is a lot of beach (and a whole lot of trash!) so we could use all of the help we can get.
