Lynne and Jim Weber are both retired after over 30 years of successful careers at IBM. They are certified Texas Master Naturalists, with Lynne having served as a past president of the Capital Area chapter.
Since moving to Austin in 1989, the Webers have been passionate naturalists, dedicated to studying Texas’ natural history. They have contributed their expertise by serving on the Balcones Canyonlands Preserve (BCP) Citizens Advisory Council (CAC) and as board members for the Big Bend Natural History Association, the Big Bend Conservancy, and the Chihuahuan Desert Research Institute.
The Webers are involved in a wide range of conservation efforts, including conducting Golden-cheeked Warbler and Colima Warbler surveys, leading guided hikes, restoring native habitats, mapping and removing invasive plants, and caring for an 8-acre preserve within the BCP. Their nature photography and writing can be found on their Flickr page (link), their monthly blog (link), and in various nature publications.
They have co-authored several books with Texas A&M University Press: Nature Watch Austin (2012), Nature Watch Big Bend (2017), Native Host Plants for Texas Butterflies (2018, which won the 2021 NPSOT Carroll Abbott Award), Native Host Plants for Texas Moths (2022, a 2023 NPSOT Carroll Abbott Award Winner), and Naturalist’s Austin: A Guide to the Plants and Animals of Central Texas (2024).
