“The Grassroom” at Kolter Elementary School is a garden area incorporating Pocket Prairies, Pollinator Gardens, raised beds and orchards. We are very interested in involving the Greater Houston Community. Every first Saturday, from 9-12, students, parents, Middle School and High School Honor Society students plus scouts all volunteer. We would like to use our school’s wonderful gardens to teach the community. It would be great for Master Naturalists to help share how to care for Native plants and why it is so important.

Join us at our monthly 9 Natives Garden Days at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. We are working with the Cockrell Butterfly Center to replant the garden following renovations. Licensed bird banders and GCBO Research Associates Robert and Kay Lookingbill  band at the sanctuary on a regular basis. Birds are captured for banding in very fine nylon nets known as “mist nets” because they are almost invisible in the environment.
