Bumblebees! – January 19
January 19, 2023 @ 7:00 pm
Nine bumble bee species are currently known to occur in Texas. That is not an overwhelming number to familiarize yourself with. Just think of all the species bird-watchers have to learn! With some patience and study, you should be able to familiarize yourself with the bumble bees that occur in the state.
Join us for our monthly meeting and bumblebee presentation by Dr. Russel Pfau, Professor Biological Sciences at Tarleton State University ! Meeting starts at 6pm. Presentation starts at 7pm
Dr Pfau’s primary focus is population genetics, specifically, Â how populations differ genetically and why. Â Dr Pfau: “I’m especially interested in understanding how the landscape affects gene flow across a species’ geographical distribution. I’m also interested in hybridization between closely related species. My students and I collect specimens from the field and then analyze their DNA in the lab using techniques such as DNA sequencing and fragment analysis (e.g. AFLP, RADseq).”
In-person and virtual options available! All virtual participants must register prior to the meeting!  All registered attendees will receive an email with the Zoom link and password the Tuesday before the meeting.Â
