Texas Parks and Wildlife uses supplemental fish stocking as one of the main strategies for large reservoir and river system fisheries management. The purpose is twofold: manage and balance ecosystems that were constructed throughout the state (lakes) in a natural way for productivity and water quality, and provide outdoor recreation opportunities for all Texans. A lot of work goes into providing fingerling fish for this purpose and much of that work happens at TPWD fish hatcheries.
Ryan Rogers started out as a seasonal employee with TPWD hatcheries 13 years ago, and now manages the Possum Kingdom State Fish Hatchery. He has a Bachelor’s of Science in Biology from Tarleton State University, and studied Epidemiology, Environmental Health, and Cartography at the University of North Texas Health Science and the University of Kentucky. He loves being outside and working with fish, but is usually found in the office-doing paperwork.
