Chapter Meeting “Marvelous Mosquitos”

July 16, 2020 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

6:00-7:00 pm – Chapter Meeting
7:00-8:00 pm – Program: “Marvelous Mosquitoes”  (Dr. David Kattes, Tarleton State University)

Many people wonder what mosquitoes are good for, and most people know a few negative associations with mosquitoes, including malaria and West Nile virus.  But what other roles do they play in the environment?  This program will include a general review of mosquitoes found in Texas and their biology, ecology, taxonomy, and diseases for which they serve as vectors.  While most people consider them at best an irritation, Dr. David Kattes finds them fascinating, and just one of his many research interests, which also include filth fly management, native pollinator diversity and Integrated Pest Management.  Dr. Kattes has recently retired as Professor of Wildlife, Sustainability and Ecosystems Sciences at Tarleton State University, where he taught courses in entomology and crop science.  He holds a PhD in Agronomy from Texas Tech, and MS and BS in Entomology from Texas A&M.

Public is invited. You must register in advance.
We will be using Zoom for our meeting. In order to provide a secure environment, registration is required in advance. All registered attendees will receive an email with the Zoom link and password the Tuesday before the meeting.
