Pollinators & Natives – October 2

October 2, 2022 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Pollinators and Natives: An Ancient Marriage with Randy Johnson – October 2

The relationship between pollinators and angiosperms (flowering plants) supports and sustains almost all terrestrial ecosystems on Earth. Flowering plants are pollinated by a vast array of organisms and mechanisms but mostly by insects and many are unique, specialized relationships which reflect their co-evolution.

This presentation discusses the co-evolution between pollinators and angiosperms and the importance of that relationship to terrestrial ecosystems and related fauna. Methods for protecting, maintaining/creating habitat for increasing biodiversity of native flora and pollinators will also be covered.

Randy Johnson is from Mesquite, Texas; he earned a degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences from Texas A&M University. Randy is the past Director of Horticulture at Texas Discovery Gardens at Fair Park and served in the same capacity at The Dallas Zoo. He now runs his own business, Randy Johnson Organics. In addition, along with his sister Julie, he grows and sells native plants from his nursery in Forney, Texas.
