VO & AT: August Chapter Meeting & Presentation – Diatoms of Texas – August 21
Join us for the monthly chapter meeting and presentation!

Our program will be Diatoms of Texas with Dr. Victoria Chraibi.
Diatoms are a type of microscopic algae that are ubiquitous in aquatic environments. Diatoms are eukaryotic organisms that belong to the class Bacillariophyceae. They are photosynthetic, meaning they produce their own food through photosynthesis, and are a crucial component of aquatic food webs. Diatoms are incredibly diverse, with over 100,000 known species, ranging in size from a few micrometers to several millimeters.
Dr. Chraibi is Assistant Professor of Biological Science at Tarleton State University. Her research is focused on freshwater ecology, in particular the paleoecology of diatoms and lake sediment records of an ecosystem’s long-term response to human activities, food web shifts, and seasonal influences.
