Program Title: Filling the Gaps: How Texas is Using Science—and Citizen Science—to Guide Wildlife Conservation
Program Summary:
Texas Parks and Wildlife is revising the State Wildlife Action Plan (SWAP)—a statewide roadmap for conserving species that need it most. This time, we’ve shifted from a broad ecosystem approach to a more focused, species-by-species strategy that helps us pinpoint species needs and take smarter action. You’ll get an inside look at the Knowledge Gap Analysis (KGA), a tool that uses science to sort out which species are ready for conservation work and which ones still need more research. We’ll also explore the Conservation Opportunity Area (COA) tool, which maps where conservation efforts are most likely to succeed. Master Naturalists can use these tools to focus their own projects, share observations that help fill data gaps, and connect local efforts to bigger statewide goals.
