Join the amazement at Acton Nature Center on Monday, April 8, as the moon blocks sunlight from reaching Earth! This is a free, family-friendly public event. Link to the event flyer here and feel free to share it.
Beginning at 12:00 noon, local amateur astronomers will have their special filtered telescopes focused on the sun and ready for YOU to take a peak as the shadow of the moon darkens the sun and blocks light to Earth. The eclipse begins at 12:21 pm and ends at 3:00. Totality (when the moon’s shadow fully covers the sun) will last about 2 minutes and 50 seconds, starting around 1:40 pm. There also will be children’s learning activities and Native American Audricka Crystal Young talking about Eclipse Folklore.
Solar glasses will be provided at the event. Looking directly at the sun under any circumstances will damage eyes. Wear clothing suitable for the weather and bring water, snacks, and a chair if you’d like.
NOTE: Handicap parking only will be available at ANC. Parking will be at Acton Baptist and Methodist Churches with a handicap accessible shuttle to and from ANC from 10 am to 4 pm. Go here for parking and shuttle instructions.
Chapter members: Contact Gary Hinds if you’re interested in volunteering to assist with this event.
