City Nature Challenge: 2024 Results!

13 May 2024

The 2024 City Nature Challenge was a success! Thank you to everyone who participated–whether you submitted 1 observation or 100, your efforts are greatly appreciated (especially with the rain we had in the middle of the sampling period!) and we couldn’t have gotten where we did without you.

The Brazos Valley did great this year, especially since our Texas competition were some of the highest numbers recorded for the entire international challenge! You can see the full breakdown of the global CNC numbers this year here: https://www.citynaturechallenge.org/current-results

So, what did we find out there?

If you’re interested in seeing the full spectrum of species observed, Bruce broke things down into a very thorough list you can find on the iNaturalist Project page: https://www.inaturalist.org/projects/city-nature-challenge-2024-brazos-valley-tx/journal/94323

Top 3 Most Commonly Observed Species:

Salt Marsh Moth
Estigmene acrea

Black-Eyed Susan
Rudbeckia hirta

Pinkladies
Oenothera speciosa

Click here for a full list of the species recorded for the Brazos Valley (and how many)

We hope you all had fun!

It is absolutely amazing to see just how much is around you when you really stop and look around to see it all, isn’t it? We look forward to having you all back for the 2025 Challenge, but in the meantime, keep observing!
