Volunteer

Volunteer service is the most important aspect of our mission.

Volunteer service provides education and outreach dedicated to the beneficial management of natural resources and natural areas in our communities.

Texas Master Naturalists must complete a minimum of forty hours of volunteer service (VS) annually to recertify in the Master Naturalist program.  Meeting the VS requirement is easy.  Many opportunities to gain volunteer service are available each year, including demonstration garden maintenance, tabling at public events, community science, chapter administrative service, and more.

Our Volunteer Service Committee approves VS opportunities and notifies members by email.  Details are also posted on our chapter calendar and in the Volunteer Management System (VMS).   Check email messages and the calendar often to learn about interesting and informative opportunities in our service area.

Anyone may suggest new VS opportunities, but the VS Director or Committee must approve events in advance.  Travel time, within limits, does count toward VS per state rules. We always seek great VS opportunities.  Know of a possible VS opportunity?  Review the Volunteer Service policies and submit the event online for approval.
