We Have a Discord Server!

31 December 2024

If you’re looking for more ways to connect with others members of the Chapter in the new year, we have good news for you: we now have a Discord server!

What is Discord?

Discord is a platform that consists of a number of themed chat rooms (“channels”) stemming from a central community node (the “server”). If you have ever used Slack in the workplace, the two systems are very similar. You can access Discord in a web browser, a desktop computer, or your mobile device–whatever you find the most comfortable.

You can make a FREE Discord account for free at http://www.discord.com and download the program/app for the device(s) of your choice.

How Do I Use Discord?

Discord uses some jargon that may look confusing on the surface, but it is not as complicated as it might look at first. The YouTube video below is a fairly approachable introduction to some of Discord’s basic functions. You can also always reference Discord’s official Beginner’s Guide on their website.

How Do I Join the Server?

The link to join the Chapter’s server is located in the Members Section of the site under “Chapter Information.” Once you have joined the server, please review the rules under server-introductions and don’t be afraid to ask questions if you need help or clarification for anything.

If you are part of the New Training Class, be sure to let the Webmaster know. We have specific channels for you to get to know your fellow classmates, discuss what you’re learning, and even coordinating rides for classes.

Additionally, if you are interested in volunteering as a server moderator, contact Vappy to join the Communications Committee and get set up for the role!
