Field trip to Range Area with Dr. Barron Rector
May 20th from 8 to noon the 4 hour class will cover weed ecology, a weed id test, talk about the Post Oak Savannah and land use change, demonstrations and hands-on things with the water cycle, walk through the prairie with several monitoring activities on bare-ground, litter, rocks and plant cover, see erosion and problems on White Creek and show how gardening and landscaping emulate what Mother Nature was already doing. A one hour power-point on “Environmental Horticulture” in the Range Area classroom will also be given. If you desire to hear about other topics, just let me know.
Each participant should bring water, pencils, cameras, hat, insect spray, sun screen, wear long pants, and no open-toed shoes. Bring a few identification guides. We do have fire ants, cane break rattlesnakes, coral snakes, copperhead snakes and wild hogs that eat cats, dogs and small children. I provide a work notebook with at least 15 handout resources for the class.
