Join us for a tour of the S.M. Tracy Herbarium with the Interim Director and Curator Dale Kruse! Dale’s current research is described below:
The broad scope of my research focuses on the systematics, ecology, and biogeography of the mosses, liverworts, hornworts, (bryophytes) and lichens. This research is largely centered in Texas and the southern United States, with additional collections from the northeastern and northwestern United States. Opportunities to explore these groups have extended internationally in Scotland, England, and Mexico. Specific research interests include: 1) spatial and temporal distributions at local, regional, and global scales 2) successional patterns and processes, 3) vertical distribution of bryophytes and lichens, 4) structure and composition of bryophyte and lichen communities, 5) biotic and abiotic parameters regulating the formation and persistence of bryophyte communities, 6) interactions between bryophytes and vascular plant communities.
At the TMN State Meeting on October 21st Dale taught an all day class on Bryophytes and Lichens and it was very well attended. I went in after the class was over and was able to look at all kinds of very interesting bryophytes and lichens through the microscope.
If you have never been to the S.M. Tracy Herbarium this is the perfect time to go and have a personal tour of an interesting and little known gem at TAES/TAMU.
