TMN Chapter Meeting

September 8, 2016 @ 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM

Dr. Mary Wicksten professor of Biology at TAMU will be presenting on the Stone City Fossil Site (Whiskey Bridge Fossil Site).   Located off highway 21 on the Brazos River under the railroad bridge.  Stone City has been called one of the most fossiliferous locations in Texas.  Dr. Wicksten, with co-authors Tom Yancey of TAMU and Chris Garvie of UT Austin coauthored the definitive work on a large extinct cuttlefish found in deposits along the Brazos River. Using the hard parts usually found of this squid-like creature and a very rare imprint of much of the body, she used her knowledge of living mollusks to help produce a reconstruction of the animal.  So come out and join us and see what you might be missing in your own backyard (meaning B/CS)!
