LOCATION: Washington County Extension Sales Facility

TOPIC: Time to Restore: Connecting People, Plants and Pollinators
In-Person Project Training (TMN Approved VMS Citizen Science Project)
SPEAKER: David Gwin, M.Sc., Time to Restore Texas state coordinator
(Detailed Bio is available at: USA-NPN Team)
PRESENTATION HIGHLIGHTS: Prairie or pollinator restoration has many challenges, from selecting which species to plant to provide nectar during critical periods, to knowing how these plant species will respond to more variable weather conditions. Phenology is the study of the timing and cyclical patterns of events in the natural world, particularly those related to the annual life cycles of plants, animals, and other living things. Better knowledge about flowering and seed timing of critical nectar plants contributes towards more climate smart restoration plantings.
Can you make a one-time or multiple observations of a flowering plant or a patch of the same plants?
David Gwin will train us on the methodology of collecting data on flowering and seed timing of nectar plants and submitting our observations through iNaturalist or Nature’s Notebook. Information on Texas specific guidelines, Texas priority plant species, and Nature’s Notebook are available here: Time to Restore – Data Collection Guidelines)
It will be helpful if Nature’s Notebook is installed on your smart device or laptop prior to the meeting. Questions: Email glcvpres@gmail.com
