Dr. Kayri Havens, the Director of Plant Science and Conservation at the Chicago Botanic Garden will speak at a seminar hosted by the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center on Tuesday March 1st at 12:15pm and is titled Moving the conservation needle: ex situ conservation, ecological research, and building botanical capacity”.

Dr. Havens is a world leader in plant reproductive biology and population genetics, focused on promoting restoration efforts that consider global change forces and biogeographic origin. Among other insights, this work includes key advances in understanding how provenance influences restoration and plant reproductive success, and critical assessments of the use of arthropod biocontrol for the management of invasive plants. Dr. Havens is also a leader in reflecting on the role of botanic gardens in society and their multi-faceted impact on conservation, public engagement, and education, especially in the light of global biodiversity declines.
