Seed Collecting and Processing

March 19, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

VMS opportunity: AT: NGO Workshops and Programs on Wildlife Conservation and Land Stewardship

Interested in collecting and storing seeds from native plants in your garden but don’t know where to start? Join inveterate seed collectors, Minnette Marr, Conservation Botanist, and Andrew McNeil-Marshall, Biologist, as they share best practices for collecting and processing native plant seeds that are not commercially available. Topics will include methods for harvesting different kinds of fruits such as berries, capsules, drupes and nuts from native plants, how to repurpose kitchen utensils to process wild-collected seeds and a comparison of conservation efforts with orthodox and recalcitrant seeds.

This class will take place online via Zoom. Registrants will receive an email with the link for the Zoom meeting prior to the event. Make sure you have Zoom installed and set up to participate.
