The Whooping Cranes are back at Lake Granger for the second year in a row! Between five and eight cranes have been spotted regularly both at Lake Granger and in the agricultural fields north of Lake Granger.
The Good Water Chapter hosted a Texas Whooper Watch training taught by Mark Klym from Texas Parks and Wildlife. Nineteen chapter members attended. One of the goal of Texas Whooper Watch is to learn more about what the cranes are eating when they are not at the Texas coast feasting on blue crab.
While the whooping cranes are sometime elusive to see at Lake Granger, hopefully, citizen science efforts at observation will add to the knowledge base about whooping crane behavior.
P.S. Please note: photograph here is a whooping crane at Port Aransas.
