Granger Lake Prairie Tours and Workshop Sunday April 13, 2014 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

March 24, 2014 by

Tours: Granger Lake is an Army Corps of Engineers site located in Williamson County, about 40 miles northeast of Austin. We will visit two prairies there: a remnant chalk prairie on the slopes above the south shore of the lake and a restored tall grass prairie planted in 1994 in a cooperative effort between NPAT, Texas Parks and Wildlife, and the Army Corps of Engineers.  Spring wildflowers should be in abundance with some little-seen prairie species on the gravelly chalk.

Lunch and Workshop: After the two tours, we will go to Alligator Prairie, a private restoration effort for lunch. Then Pat Merkord, Executive Director of NPAT, will give a talk on how to identify remnant prairies and about NPAT’s efforts to conserve these increasingly rare ecosystems.

Attendance is limited to 30. Registration fee is $20 (includes lunch).
Please RSVP and register for the trip and by emailing Gretchen Vollmer at gretchen_vollmer@texasprairie.org.

Directions to first meet up location and between locations will be sent to you upon registration. Click HERE for a map to meet up location and HERE for link to Granger Lake Website.
