July 1 Wednesday – NOON to 1pm at Dougherty Arts Center, 1110 Barton Springs Road
- Center for Environmental Research Lunchtime Lecture by Kevin M. Anderson
- 2015 Lunchtime Lecture theme – The Geography of Rivers: The Nature and Culture of Flowing Water
- July Lunchtime Lecture:Riparia: Life at the River’s Edge
- Riparian areas are waterway margins, the transition zone along river banks between the river channel and the bottomland and upland areas of a watershed. Riparian vegetation forms rich habitat for biodiversity, and riparian areas are critical sites for hydrology and biogeochemistry that influence water quality and quantity. During drought, they are a thin ribbon of green life along our rivers and streams, and, during flood, they are the armor that hold the banks together. This is where one hears wind in the willows (or cypress) and the bank folk like bank swallows, beavers, and otters make their homes, so join me for a talk about life at the river’s edge.
