June NPSOT meeting – AGRILife Building – 8 June at 7:00 p.m.

May 23, 2017 by

The June meeting promises to be very informative and encouraging to botany lovers.  Our own Larry Fowler, retired botanist, will present the program.  His topic will be How Might One (1) Become a Field Botanist and (2) Organize a Field Survey to Acquaint Oneself with the Local Flora.  Larry plans to relate his path  in pursuing his passion as a  field botanist.  He will outline seven steps necessary to become a field botanist yourself.  Desire is the most important requirement.  Currently he is conducting botanical surveys of the nature trails in Sun City and will use this experience to share his view on what it takes to become a field botanist and his processes in conducting the survey.  Maybe he will also share some of  the delightful surprises he has found.

Bio:   Larry’s  academic training equipped him with degrees in Geology and Botany.  Most of his career has been with the USDA and  focused on  protecting our country from the entry of more invasive weeds.  He is currently conducting plant surveys in Sun City and Garey Ranch.

This month we meet in the Williamson County, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Office meeting room, 3151 SE Inner Loop, Georgetown, TX 78626 (map).
