Sparrow Class
Sparrow ID Class: Classroom instruction, Saturday December 16, 2017, 9:00 AM-12:00 PM, County Annex Bldg. Field Trip Sunday, December 17, 2017, 8:00 AM-11:00 AM, Tejas Camp Cost $25.00 Advanced Training Hours: 6 Class limited to 15 participants The classroom portion will concentrate on the process of identifying sparrows. We will review nomenclature, field marks, ecology and how they act in the field. This class will be followed up with a three hour field trip on the following day at Tejas Camp located at the west end of Lake Georgetown. In preparation for this class I would recommend purchasing from Amazon “Sparrows of the United States and Canada” by David Beadle and James Rising. This is an excellent book on LBJ’s (little brown jobs is another description of sparrows among birders). We will concentrate on those species likely to be found in Williamson County and surrounding area. This will exclude discussion of towhees, juncos, longspurs, & buntings which are also included in the Family Emberizidae.
