You and one guest are invited to an exclusive, one-time public screening held at the Houston Zoo of Lights Out, Texas!, a documentary produced by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s Center for Conservation Media. The film documents the Lights Out, Texas! campaign’s effort to reduce avian mortality caused by light pollution and glass in our built environment.
Join us for pre-film networking and post-film conversations, where experts and partners will share how the campaign has grown, where it is going, and what you can do to help save energy and protect wildlife here in Texas.

Texas is globally important for birds. Each year, nearly 2 billion birds pass through Texas in one of the planet’s greatest migration journeys. An estimated 80% of birds migrating in North America travel at night. Unfortunately, light emanating from our cities can attract and disorient birds, drawing them towards urban centers and leaving them vulnerable to urban threats like collisions with buildings.
And sadly, researchers estimate that 1 billion birds die annually across the U.S. in these building collisions.
Since 2020, partners across the state have been working on solutions to protect our birds and go, “Lights Out, Texas!”
