Texas Riparian & Stream Ecosystem Workshop- Buffalo Bayou Watershed

DescriptionThis workshop is being co-hosted by the Texas A&M AgriLifeExtension Service, the Texas Water Resources Institute, and Houston CommunityCollege – Katy Campus. The training will focus on the nature and function ofstream and riparian zones and the benefits and direct impacts from healthyriparian zones. The riparian education programs will cover an introduction toriparian principles, watershed processes, basic hydrology, erosion/depositionprinciples and riparian vegetation, as well as potential causes of degradationand possible resulting impairment(s) and available local resources includingtechnical assistance and tools that can be employed to prevent and/or resolvedegradation.
These one-day trainings in watersheds across the state include both indoorclassroom presentations and outdoor stream walks. Instructors are experts fromTexas Parks and Wildlife Department, USDA Natural Resources ConservationService, Texas A&M Forest Service and Texas A&M AgriLife ExtensionService.
The goal is for participants to better understand and relate to riparian andwatershed processes, the benefits that healthy riparian areas provide and thetools that can be employed to prevent and/or resolve degradation and improvewater quality. At the conclusion of the training, participants will receive acertificate of completion.
